Book One of the Pentas Bay Series · M. Romy

Pentas Bay Florida

She was always meant to be here

Scroll

She came to start over.
Pentas Bay had other plans.

Some cities swallow you whole. Pentas Bay does something quieter. It waits.

When Noa DeLuca leaves Beverly Hills behind and moves to a small coastal town in Florida, she tells herself it's temporary. A fresh start. A strategic choice. What she doesn't say out loud — not even to herself — is that there is nothing left to go back to. Her parents are gone. Her old life is gone. And the girl she used to be feels like someone she barely recognizes anymore.

Pentas Bay was never supposed to matter. Then it does.

In the space of one semester, Noa finds herself surrounded by people she never expected — a group of strangers who become something closer to family than she thought possible this soon. A best friend who makes her laugh until she forgets to be sad. A boy who looks at her like she's worth staying for. And a complicated, infuriating presence she can't quite figure out — or ignore.

But beneath the surface of this sun-soaked town, something darker is moving. And the person closest to her is in more danger than any of them realize.

Pentas Bay is a story about grief and what grows in its place. About chosen family, first love, and the courage it takes to let people in when you've already lost everything once.

Some beginnings feel like endings. This one just might be both.

Meet the people of
Pentas Bay

01
Noa DeLuca
The Newcomer · PB University

Pentas Bay was always her plan — PB University, the house her father Luciano bought for her and Blake, a future she'd already mapped out from Beverly Hills. Then her parents died and she arrived anyway. Alone, ahead of schedule, carrying grief and a set of keys to a house that was meant to feel like home.

Main Character
02
Blake DeLuca
The Big Sister · PB Memorial

Ambitious, hardworking, and unflinchingly capable — just like their father. Blake was already deep into her residency at PB Memorial when Noa arrived. She holds everything together so her little sister doesn't have to. She's been doing that her whole life. Whether she wants to stop is a different question.

Noa's Sister
03
Matt Carson
The Reliable One · Boston

Pre-law, from Boston, and Eliot's roommate. He's steady, present, and genuinely good — the kind of person who shows up when it matters and asks for nothing in return. He carries something heavy, though he rarely lets it show. The kind of person you trust immediately, which makes everything more complicated.

The Constant
04
Julian Hale
The Complicated One

Pre-law, sharp, and carrying his father's last name like a weight he never asked for. His dad is ruthless and powerful; his mom Amanda is warm but spectacularly irresponsible. Growing up, Eliot's house was more home than his own. He'd do anything for Eliot — and almost nothing for anyone else. Then Noa showed up.

The Complicated One
05
Eliot Reed
The Funny One · Noa's Bestie

Pre-med, one of five siblings, raised in a house full of noise and unconditional love. Eliot is the kind of person who makes any room feel easier — Julian's oldest friend, Matt's roommate, and quickly Noa's person. He deflects everything with humour and sarcasm, which works brilliantly as a strategy until it comes to Harper.

The Comic Relief (with depth)
06
Harper Kingsley
Noa's Girl Best Friend · Broadcast Journalism

Ginger curls, a future in journalism, and the kind of warmth that makes people trust her immediately. She practically raised herself — her mom Ashlyn never quite recovered from being left, and Harper learned early to take care of everything on her own. She became Noa's best friend within days of meeting her.

The Heart of the Group
07
Brooke Ashford
Harper's Roommate · Chicago

Business student, Harper's roommate, and the most visibly put-together person in Pentas Bay. She grew up in Chicago with parents who cared deeply about appearances. Brooke became very good at meeting their standards. She colour-codes her planner, folds her towels with precision, and always knows the right thing to say.

The Type-A One
08
Karim
Owner of PB Brew & Pentilla

He owns PB Brew and Pentilla — inherited the café from his uncle, who he cared for until the end, and built the rest himself. He studied marine biology once. Now he makes the best coffee in Pentas Bay and somehow always knows what you need before you do. Blake's closest friend in town, and the one person who sees through her carefully managed composure.

The Anchor of the Group

Welcome to Pentas Bay, FL

A luxury coastal town named after the pentas flowers that bloom along every street. The kind of place where everything looks perfect from the outside — and the secrets live just beneath the surface.

🏥
PB Memorial Hospital
+

Where Blake DeLuca spends her nights. Small enough to feel personal, large enough to carry everyone's emergencies — and secrets.

PB Memorial is the only hospital in Pentas Bay — which means everyone who works there knows everyone else's business. Blake is one of the youngest residents on the floor, which earns her both respect and resentment. The night shifts are long. The hallways are quiet. And sometimes the most important conversations happen at 3am between two people who are too tired to pretend.

🎓
PB University
+

A large, buzzing campus split into two main buildings, connected by a wide plaza filled with pentas flowers. Where everything starts.

Two main buildings connected by a wide green plaza framed by tall trees and clusters of pentas flowers in pink, red, and soft purple. The first building houses Media, Business and Law — glass-heavy, sharp lines, constant movement. The second is for Medicine — pale stone, wide windows, more sky than reflection. Between them, the plaza is always alive. Noa and Harper study Media and Business respectively. Julian and Matt are both pre-law. Eliot is pre-med. They all end up in the same plaza eventually.

PB Brew
+

Light, airy and calm — pale wood, soft natural tones, hints of sand and sea without trying too hard. The best coffee in Pentas Bay, and the place where Noa meets Harper.

Light, airy, calm but sleek at the same time. Clean lines. Pale wood. Soft natural tones with hints of sand and sea woven into the design without crossing into cliché. Karim runs it like he built it — intentional, grounded, comfortable. The coffee is exceptional, the apple crumble with crème brûlée is what the place is known for, and the salted vanilla cold foam matcha has converted more than a few black coffee purists. It's where Noa walks in on a bad day, meets Karim, and then Harper — and stays far longer than she planned.

🌙
Pentilla
+

Reached through a vault door with a starfish handle — Karim's club is a whole other world. Deep ocean tones, coral textures, lighting that moves like water.

You reach it through a vault door inside the Brew — sand-colored, heavy, the handle shaped like an oversized starfish. A narrow hallway designed like an underwater world leads you in: soft blue lighting rippling across the walls, subtle coral textures, shadows that move like currents. The main space opens up like another world entirely — deep ocean tones, shell details, textured panels, sand-colored tables, lighting filtered like sunlight through water. It shouldn't work. It completely works. Accessible from the bayside for guests, with a staff entrance through the Brew.

🌸
The Promenade
+

The waterfront promenade lined with pentas flowers — water on one side, the town's cafés and boutiques on the other. The place everyone ends up.

The promenade runs right along the water's edge — on one side the bay, on the other the cafés, boutiques and terraces of Pentas Bay. It's lined with the pink and purple pentas flowers that gave the town its name. In the morning it belongs to joggers and dog walkers. By evening it fills with people. It's where Noa first realizes she might actually like it here. And where some of the most important things in Book One happen, with the water right there beside them.

🌊
Pentas Bay Beach
+

The kind of beach that looks like a postcard. Where things get said that can't be unsaid — and the water makes honesty feel easier.

The beach stretches south from the pier, wide and quiet compared to the busier tourist spots further up the coast. The group has a spot here too — a stretch near the old lifeguard tower. It's where they go when the Brew feels too small and Pentilla feels too loud. The water has a way of making people honest. Not always at the right moment.
